| Shoji Sliding Door Info | | |
A timeless traditional and contemporary design, reminiscent
of old Kyoto, our sliding Shoji door kit can transform any space into a
calming, naturally lit retreat. The kit, including frame, slides on easy to
install, double routed wood on wood tracks. Shoji-style doors can be used to
enhance a living room, bedroom, kitchen, patio, or to cover
glass sliders - and can even be installed as closet doors.
Handcrafted from imported, sustainable Cyprus Wood, our design features a
double sided wood lattice, with an exceptionally detailed 3 x 12 rectangular
grid design. The mortise & tenon hardwood frame is fully hand finished
with your choice of three colors, and a clear protective varnish.
Our *DOUBLE SIDED*
doors are available in
three
colors: traditional zen black,
dark walnut with teak
tone, or
natural
light honey colored
hardwood. If you
are "price comparing", please note that these doors have the wood
grid-work visible on both sides (DOUBLE SIDED), for both aesthetics and integrity. Also,
these doors are
ready to ship - Save time and cost with
custom Shoji installations by using prefabricated doors.
If
budget is a concern, we do offer the singled
sided option as well. The
dimensions for the rough opening
are approx: 81.5"H x 72"W x 3.5"D- measurements
will vary very slightly as our doors are all solid wood and handcrafted,
so we recommend cutting after you have received physical doors and tracks.
KIT INCLUDES: TWO DOUBLE SIDED SHOJI PANELS WITH COMPLETE FRAME. Both
the base and ceiling tracks should be installed
for proper support, unless your contractor creates
a custom top sliding fixture. Each panel is a standard door width, approximately
78 3/4"Tall x 36"Wide x 1 1/8"Deep, sold
in pairs (set of two panels). Price includes sliding base and ceiling
track measuring approx. 69 5/8" x 1/2" x 1 5/8" as well as two 78 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" door
jambs, fastened together by wooden dowels. Door Jambs are optional for
installation, particulary if you intend to have multiple kits side by side as in photo. The
'rice paper' is made from a reinforced, puncture resistant soft composite paper called
"Taf Top"
traditionally used in Japan, sturdy but still letting
muted light through.
Top
photo
displays a four door installation
(two kits installed side by side) with
Tatami mats and Tatami Table, which
are available separately.
These
are a set size, pre-boxed in sets of two, and already made,
custom
sizes are *not* offered, but our simple wood on wood track is designed to be easily shortened or extended be so please work
with your local designer for advice to customize your room to accommodate
your doors. We also have a great book- A
JAPANESE TOUCH FOR YOUR HOME- by Koji Yagi, that gives complete layout
and design ideas for Japanese décor.
FAQ: Do
we offer three panel kits, or additional tracks?
A: Our
doors are imported in kits of 2 panels with frame, yet for the price of
our double sided door, you should purchase two kits (4 panels) and keep
the spare panel in storage for future use as a replacement door. The frame
is a simple wood on wood track and can be very easily custom cut to
accommodate three panels. Can
these be used as a pocket door?Consult
with a local contractor for pocket door installation.
The tracks that we provide are often too thick and do not extend
into wall, and will have to be replaced with a custom track, a
prefab. pocket door track available at your local Home Depot may
work. Can
I use these outdoors or in a bathroom or hot tub room? These
doors are for indoor, dry use.
