Three Monkeys

$149.00

From a centuries old Japanese proverb, this delightful pictorial maxim is based on a 17th century carving over a door of the famous Tôshô-gû shrine in Nikkô, Japan. The maxim is believed to have originated from a Tendai-Buddhist legend possibly from India via China in the 8th century during the Yamato Period. The three wise monkeys are Mizaru covering his eyes, who "sees no evil"; Mikazaru covering his ears, who "hears no evil"; and Mazaru covering his mouth, who "speaks no evil". This whimsical trio offers Asian inspired design and style that will enhance any room in your home. Made of porcelain and hand painted, each monkey measures approximately 7" in height. The two tier wooden stand is designed to artfully display the monkeys and has traditional oriental carvings in the front and back and the top of each pedestal has a round pink marble inset. The stand measures 19 1/2" in length and 6" in height. The perfect addition to your Zen inspired space.
