They are then sewn together with a brocaded fabric border, bound by organic twine. Our Tatami all have a moisture resistant barrier at the foundation. HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TATAMI
Tatami are greenish when new, and over time, will dry to become a tan color. It is recommended to remove Rice Straw Tatami
quarterly and let them sun dry for an afternoon. If your area is damp,
a de-humidifier is recommended to protect your Tatami.
Freshen and protect Tatami with a light dusting of cornstarch from time to time. Just like a mattress, It is recommended to rotate mats ocassionally to avoid wear from highly trafficked areas. Vacuum Tatami along grain for general cleaning. We are confident that you will appreciate the beauty of your installation, and with proper care, your Tatami should last for many years to come(4-8 years.) Our Rice Straw Tatami are made under strict manufacturing standards with a moisture barrier on the bottom and the inner straw fill dried for one full year and then baked at very high temperatures to create a pest free, sterile fill and are safe for your home. WHICH TATAMI SHOULD I USE? The straw fill is the traditional tatami mat used for centuries in Japan. Fiber fill is slightly denser and provides a subtle and firmer feel. Both types of fill are assembled with exacting standards and are sure to offer years of enjoyment. |
