| HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TATAMI:
Tatami are greenish when new, and over time, will dry to become tan in color. To extend the life of your Tatami, we recommend keeping your mats dry to avoid possible mildew. Avoid wet cleaners. We suggest removing Rice Straw Tatami
quarterly and allowing them to sun dry for an afternoon. If your environment is damp,
we recommend a dehumidifier to protect your Tatami.
Freshen and protect them with a light dusting of cornstarch from time to time. Like a mattress, it is best to rotate mats to avoid wear from highly trafficked areas. Vacuum Tatami along grain for general cleaning. Wearing shoes on Tatami mats is never recommended. We are confident that you will appreciate the look and feel of your mats and with proper care, your Tatami should last for many years to come-(5-10 years.) Our Rice Straw Tatami are made under strict manufacturing standards with a moisture barrier on bottom. The inner straw fill is dried for one full year and then baked at very high temperatures to create a pest free, sterile fill and are safe for your home. WHICH TATAMI SHOULD I USE? Our Tatami mats are some of the best available, and are made according to traditional Japanese specifications. Rice Straw is the traditional Tatami fill, offering a slightly softer feel. Fiber Fill is firmer, and equally beautiful. |
