The Alibangbang tree is known as the butterfly leaf in the Philippines. This leaf is used for medicinal and food flavoring purposes throughout the South Pacific. The leaves are dried through a fossilization process for up to four months. The chlorophyll in the leaf is hand rubbed leaving just the skeletal remains. The leaves are then stained with organic dyes.
These sustainable leaves are natural, and each one abosrbs the dye differently. The result is an eco friendly lamp with varying shades and hues. The leaves are fused to a heat resistant lamp backing. The frame is powder coated wrought iron, producing a very strong and durable lamp.
Handcrafted by skilled, fair trade artisans in the Philippines. The lamp measures 16 1/2" tall and 7" in diameter. We recommend using either compact florescent light (CFL) bulbs or LED bulbs. Lamp care: a dry cloth or duster is the preferred method for cleaning, do not use liquid cleaners. Avoid placing lamp in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
