Furoshiki - Crane and Turtle

A Furoshiki is a centuries old traditional Japanese wrapping cloth that was used to transport clothes, gifts and other goods. Merchants used them to transport their wares or to wrap a gift.

Today, with a renewed interest and fresh symbolic designs Furoshiki are used as decorative wall hangings as well as an eco-friendly way to carry lunches, wrap presents and to tote groceries.

This Furoshiki depicts a crane and turtle in wonderful detail and color. The crane represents the bird of happiness and is a symbol of long life, good fortune and prosperity. The turtle is seen as an animal whose magic united heaven and earth. Just as the shell was a symbol of heaven and the underside a symbol of earth. The turtle is trustworthy, reliable, courageous and protective and thereby viewed as noble symbol of strength.

Measures 19 1/2" wide and 20" long. Made in Japan of 100% cotton.
