The Alibangbang tree is known as the butterfly tree in the Philippines. Leaves are used for medicinal and food flavoring purposes throughout the South Pacific. The leaves are dried through a fossilization process for up to four months. The chlorophyll in the leaves are hand rubbed leaving just the skeletal remains. The leaves are then stained with organic dyes and hand placed on a UL listed lamp backing. These sustainable leaves are natural, and each one absorbs the dye differently. This panel is rolled and hand tied to a powder coated, recycled wrought iron frame. The result is an eco friendly lamp with varying shades and hues.
Handcrafted by skilled, fair trade artisans in the Philippines. The lamp measures 16 1/2" tall and 7" in diameter. We recommend using either compact florescent light (CFL) bulbs or LED bulbs. These provide an equal amount of light, but use less wattage and produce less heat as compared to a standard incandescent bulb. The lower heat will help to prolong the life of of the lamp.
